The ever-increasing speed of data-centric technology and artificial intelligence development and deployment into the marketplace has created unprecedented data protection challenges for Canadians. The potential for significant personal harm necessitates regulations that not only report data breaches but prevent them and mitigate their impact. Enhancing data privacy, control, and protection measures needs to be a priority for the Canadian government. Canadians must be able to access and control their personal information, or through a process called anonymization, ensure that information is irreversibly encrypted or altered to insulate the individual from the risks of data breaches.
